Here we use ether to “blow up” a tire that doesn’t contact the rim very well. No animals where harmed but Jeff did loose hair on the first couple of tires.

we have tried this before and all we ended up doing was setting tires on fire

OK, so I read the warning and i didn't try it at home.  I did it on holiday – tried it on a Unimog tyre and blew it off the rim. Thanks for the warning but I'm not sure the exact location you do it ensures the best result, either that or I'm missing something.

    Wow, this is like amazing!

Put inner tubes in the tires inflate and let them sit for a few days. Deflate the tubes and then mount the tires on the wheel. 🙂

Katzenjammer: ether is highly flammable. Spray it inside the tire put a quick flame to it and get the air to the tire as fast as possible or it may not work and have to do it again. The explosion from igniting the ether super heats the air and expands it, with nowhere to go it pushes out the tire against the rim to keep it there it needs air from the compressor. Too much ether and you could blow out the side walls and you wake up in the neighbours yard if you wake up at all. We do it all the time on our log trucks but we are 5 hours from a tire shop.

    How does the trick work?

  17. Bob Belmer says:

    ha ha that was awesome

  18. b4ds33d2 says:

you arent inflating the tire, you are seating the bead. you still have to put air in it.

  19. MrSentrock says:

first saw this on arctic vehicles years ago when they pop a bead or replacing a tire in the field, pretty cool

Awesome! I have heard people talking about this method, but never seen it done. I'll never even come close to doing it myself, but thanks for letting me see what they're talking about!

  22. clockguy2 says:

I'd advise filling the tire with air immediately after lighting the either, and before the air inside cools down.

  23. vorkev1 says:

its way better using asellean kidding this will kill you

  24. mozzmann says:

OK Guys the net time you need to do this Place a chain around the centre of the tire and cinch it down with chain dogs.
then take it to a Truck tire repair place that specialises in Tubeless truck tires. They will have an inflation ring that will dump a huge amount of air into the tire forcing it onto the rim. NEVER use Ether starting fluid as this attacks the rubber like chloroform and weakens the tire to the point of failure.

Here is another way to have fun with tire just visit my channel…

  27. The ether, when used in the right amount, will burn and expand so rapidly it will push the tire out and seal against the rim. Too much ether and it will blow up, too little and it will just burn. I never plan to do this again. I will never own one piece wheels for this big tire again. Two piece rims are better and safer.

  28. I just gave a little more detail in another reply. I would like to point out this is done by a lot people, but it is dangerous. It was a last resort for us but it does work. This combination of wheels and tires should be avoided.

  29. Yes, deuce and a half. For what it's worth, we first took these to a commercial tire shop and they could not get them to seat with 2 cheata tanks. We tried everything but the side walls are so stiff on these big tires we could not get them to bulge out and touch the rim. I did get one to seat with a cheata tank some months later after it sat in my yard flat for a month. After a month of sitting down like that (only about 2 inches) it had spread enough to push out and touch enough of the rim.

What are those tires for? Looks like a deuce and a half, la come along and a strap works and you usually get to keep all your hair

  31. doesnt really take very much ability to do it… just remember, not enough is better than too much.

  32. M DC says:

I'm sorry, are you a self appointed grammar cop or is this a full time job for you?

  33. I dont understand the big deal about this. Can someone explain me?

  34. I have only done that with one set of tires, was putting 35×14 tires one 15×8 wheels that only had 2'' back spacing, that didnt work with the tires machine so the guy that owned the shop got the either, worked slick but one tire started to doform a bit but came out of it when its started to air up

  35. my buddy and i put a tubeless golf cart tire on with ratcheting straps, fill it with air while tightening the ratcheting strap while hitting it with a hammer around the inner part of the tire by the rim, it'll pop it onto the rim sooner or later, it took us about 3 tries and we got it lol

  44. Jacob Lord says:

Oh man, my friend and his dad tried this and the lighter got caught in the bead and broke!!

  45. Dont try this at home? Well where am I supposed to try it at??

  46. flanksteak2 says:

We stand back and light the stream of ether as it comes out of the can in order to ignite what we've already put in the tire.

That way you don't have to stand so close.
